WHAT CAN SORT DO FOR YOU?Provide personal satisfaction. Give you the ability to serve your community, state and nation. Knowing that YOU can provide medical care to people during a time of crisis. During the flooding in North Carolina in 1999, (Hurricane Floyd) our spirit of giving medical help was warmly received by our own residents and much appreciated by the medical community in the flooded areas. Experiences and training in disaster preparedness and crisis management. You will have the opportunity not only to hear about disaster preparedness but also to receive practical training, SORT provides unique training is austere medicine not easily obtainable elsewhere. SORT's members and instructors provide training based on experience from many years and missions "in the field." CEU credits. A wide variety of state certification credits can be received through training with SORT. SORT also works many NC Community Colleges around the state providing many specialized training opportunities such as the SMAT II and III core courses..
WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR SORT ?Membership ExpectationsYou are expected to commit time for training, including in-house classes, home web-based training and field practical skills. You are expected to develop TEAM SPIRIT enabling you to function during a crisis. You are expected to help maintain preparedness of equipment and medical supplies and overall team readiness. The team meets at 7:00 PM on the first Wednesday night of the month at our training facility located at 121 Polo Road, Winston-Salem, NC. (See map and direction on 1st page of this website) Members who are unable to attend monthly meetings take short courses through web-based training pertaining to meeting subjects and discuss these topics during training exercises. SORT is undergoing some restructuring and planning at present, therefore, the next SORT team meeting will be held on Wednesday January 6th, 2010 at the SORT Disaster Training Center from 7:00 PM to around 9:30 PM. You are expected to attend 1 weekend field training exercise per year and take part in our monthly meetings. By working to maintain your preparedness, you will learn to care for people with state of the art equipment in an austere medical setting.
